Red River Land: Anne Carlsen

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Red River Land is a series of programs about North Dakota developed for educational purposes in the 1960s by Erling Rolfsrud, educator, historian and writer, in conjunction with Prairie Public Television, as it was then known.

Dr. Anne Carlsen (1915-2002) founded the Crippled Children’s School in Jamestown, North Dakota, now called the Anne Carlsen Center.  Anne Carlsen was born with no forearms or lower legs, but earned a medical degree and received several awards for her work to help the disabled.  Her father once told her, “Two arms and two legs missing aren’t as important as one head present.”
