  1. Look at a road map of North Dakota. Can you locate the Soo Line Railroad (today it is part of the Canadian Pacific Railroad Line.) It travels a line from Hankinson to Valley City to Minot. What major physiographic formation lies along its path? Do highways also follow that line? What lies south of that formation?
  2. North Dakota is known as an important flyway for migrating birds. What features of the state's topography attract birds?
  3. Using your road map and this article, locate the lowest and highest points in North Dakota. What kind of agriculture or industry exists near these points? Does the topography contribute to the decisions people make when they decide what kind of economies to pursue?
