Unit 1 examines the landscape and pre-human environment of the land we know as North Dakota. This study previews the way human relationships and cultures are shaped by the natural world and by the means people have found to take advantage of the soil, water, climate, and minerals of this region. We also learn in this unit that the landscape is dynamic, though the change slowly emerges over thousands, even millions, of years.
