One method historians use to analyze and evaluate diaries is to determine how many times specific subjects are mentioned. Using the chart below, select several topics that are mentioned in Dorry Shaw’s diary and Mae Roberts’ diaries. Place each topic in a box along the side of the chart. Make a mark or a comment under the appropriate name as you encounter that topic in their diaries.
When you have completed the chart, decide what is important to each of them and what that tells us about their lives. How does their sex, time period, and location influence or reflect their interests?
