The Game and Fish Laws booklet printed pertinent laws verbatim from the ND Civil Code. In 1925, Section 34 concerns Deer Hunting, which had been illegal since 1913, and remained closed until 1931.
In 1941, deer season is open for 10 days in November, but the deer law also excludes moose, elk, Rocky Mountain (bighorn) sheep and goats (Mountain goats), and antelope (pronghorn) from legal hunting. In 1941, the G & F commissioner doubted that there would ever be a season for these animals, but pronghorn opened in 1951, bighorn sheep opened a very limited season in 1975, and moose opened (with 12 permits available) in 1977. Elk were restored to North Dakota’s badlands in 1941, and opened a season on elk in 1984.
