    American Elm, state tree of North Dakota

    The American Elm became North Dakota’s state tree in 1947. A common tree across the state, it often reaches a height of 120 feet or more.

    Dutch elm disease, spread by the elm bark beetle, has destroyed thousands of these great trees.
