    North Dakota Quarter
    US Mint Image

In 1996, Congress passed a bill that authorized the U.S. Mint to make a new series of quarters to honor the 50 states. This law, called the “50 State Quarters® Program,” allowed each state to submit its own design for the “tails” side of the quarter. The head of George Washington would remain on the “heads” side of the coins. The reverse “tails” side of the North Dakota Quarter features American Bison and a sunset over the Badlands.

The North Dakota quarter was released on August 28, 2006, the 39th coin released in the 50 State® Quarter Program.

Although the commemorative quarter is a fitting tribute to the history, beauty, and charm of the great state of North Dakota, it is not an official state symbol.
